This site demonstrates an interactive online newspaper designed to allow readers and journalists to connect with each other.
Each journalist creates a profile which includes an e-mail address, Twitter username and link to their blog, if they have one, which appears at the end of each story they produce. They also create a profile with more information about themselves, and a link to this appears at the top and bottom of their stories (as a linked byline).
Readers who choose to can also create profiles, which are linked to contributions they make on the site, such as comments, links they have added to the link page or forum posts. These profiles are the same as those created by the website's staff, encouraging the idea that the news website and its journalists are part of the community.
Readers with Facebook accounts can create profiles simply by clicking the "sign in with Facebook" button visible on most pages, making the barrier to signing up very low. They are also able to promote their own blog and Twitter feed in their use profiles, providing another incentive to sign up.
Bloggers join the site in exactly the same way. The site admin makes a simple change to their account details in the back end in order to give them the ability to post blogs. The rest of the system is automated, so they automatically receive their own page and URL (usually www.website.com/blogs/blogger/Name of Blogger).
Anyone signed up to the site - journalists, bloggers and readers - can create content by posting comments, creating forum posts, adding links, posting events, posting photos or bookmarking videos (ie, posting a video from another service such as YouTube which will play on this ite while being hosted on the original site). All these features can be moderated or simply turned off to avoid abuse, and are included here as an example of what is possible.
Most features of this site work, so sign up and try them. Advertising is for display purposes only and does not link anywhere.
They can list their blog and twitter account in their profile.
